Indoor navigation is a relatively new field of application. Indoor navigation applications could support users of large public buildings such as shopping malls, hospitals and airport terminals. Since the Global Positioning System (GPS) does not work within indoor environments, studies propose alternative positioning systems. Literature also explored alternative techniques for path planning and selecting landmarks. With respect to representing indoor environments and communicating indoor routes, current systems are mainly bases on outdoor navigation systems. This study provides guidelines for improving the indoor route communication and visualization of indoor navigation applications.
